Thunder for the eastern seaboards 11-12/3

New postby Razor on Wed 10/03/2010 10:13

Metservice advise a moderate risk on the southerly changes tomorrow.

Might be a good flick of rain for the farmers, the fire risk is very highly elevated round here right now.

Some castellatus forms on some cloud to the west, just north of TC this evening, but sadly that scenario dosen't work here in Canterbury for indicating possible thunderstorms :(

Well when the Hagley flower show in November was in Auckland the weather often had tents blown over etc etc.

Hopefully not. When it was in Auckland it got knocked around a bit by bad weather because it was held in November. I guess thats why they now hold it in March.

Nothing too major with this change which arrived abit earlier than i anticipated, it was already southerly and overcast at 8am this morning.
This threw out any thunderstorm chances straight away.
Light drizzly rain for most of the morning turned to a more persistant rain in the afternoon, although its now easing back up again by the looks.
I am thinking a better chance for thunderstorms and hail tomorrow early afternoon with the next cold surger, as long as we can get some sunshine in the morning and a sneaky NE.
Cheers
Jason.

Surface pressure a bit too high for anything eventful ..but it's a sluggish, high 1030's high, this southerly is working it's way around and anything can happen.
If it does, it won't be much.

The Tstorm season has been a write-off down here, Ive packed the rain gauge up just gotta wait round a few months for the big snow this winter.

Yeah, theres quite a few strikes on the radar too.

Pretty nice day out today. 8 degrees, with a 5C feels like. 70kph winds, 6mm/h rain, and some thunderstorm activity. Brrrrrrrrr

About half a dozen rumbles here over the last 15 mins, and one just now very close - saw the flash, and a very crisp rumble no more than one second later. :)
